What it pays
Referral fees are tiered by engagement type and calculated on revenue NextGen actually collects — not on booked value, and not on amounts we never receive.
Paid on fixed-scope custom software builds. The fee is calculated on fees actually collected from the referred client, excluding pass-through costs, third-party licences, and travel.
Paid monthly on time-and-materials engagements for the first twelve months of billing following the executed statement of work.
Paid on retained engineering pods and staff augmentation placements for the first twelve months of billing on that engagement.
Referral fees are calculated once NextGen has collected payment from the referred client and are paid within 30 days of the end of the month in which that payment was received. NextGen pays no fee on amounts it does not collect.
How it works
Sign up in under a minute. The education library, positioning materials, and program terms are open to you immediately — nothing to wait on.
We run a short human review of who you are and who you sell to, usually inside 3 business days. Approval unlocks deal registration and the confidential sales assets.
Log the company before you make the introduction. We check it against our pipeline and either accept it — locking that account to you for 90 days — or decline it with a plain reason.
NextGen qualifies, scopes, contracts, and delivers. You can stay in the loop or step back entirely. You carry no delivery risk and no liability for the engagement.
Track status in the portal. Once we collect from the client, your fee is calculated and paid within 30 days of month end.
Your referral is protected, in writing
The portal will not let two partners hold an active registration on the same account. Your claim is timestamped and cannot be overwritten while it is live.
If we decline a registration because the company is already in our pipeline, we tell you that outright. We do not decline a registration and then work the account.
Enterprise cycles are long. If the deal is genuinely moving as the window closes, we extend it rather than let it lapse on a technicality.
Who this is for
You do not need a technical background or a sales team. You need trust with an executive who has budget.
You advise on strategy or operations and keep hitting an engineering gap you cannot staff.
You set technical direction for several companies and need a team you would put your own name on.
Portfolio companies need real engineering capacity fast, without a nine-month hiring cycle.
Clients ask you to build things past your scope and you would rather refer than decline.
Mid-market clients bring you systems problems that are really software problems.
A client needs a delivery team, not another individual hire.

Frequently asked questions
- What does the NextGen referral partner program actually pay?
- Referral fees are tiered by engagement type. Fixed-fee custom software builds pay 10% of total project fees collected. Time-and-materials custom software pays 7.5% of collected revenue for the first twelve months. Staff augmentation and dedicated pods pay 5% of collected revenue for the first twelve months. Fees are calculated on revenue NextGen actually collects from the referred client, excluding pass-through costs and third-party licences, and are paid within 30 days of the end of the month in which NextGen received payment. Typical NextGen engagements run between $120,000 and $500,000, so a single accepted referral is a meaningful fee rather than a token finder's payment.
- How does deal registration protect my referral?
- Registering a client in the partner portal timestamps your claim on that account. NextGen reviews every registration within 3 business days and either accepts it — which locks the account to you for 90 days — or declines it with a reason. The most common reason for a decline is that the company is already an active NextGen client or already in our pipeline from another source, which we tell you plainly rather than quietly working the account. The portal will not let the same company be actively registered by two partners at once, so your claim cannot be overwritten while it is live.
- What happens after my protection window expires?
- A 90-day protection window covers the normal enterprise sales cycle for an engagement of this size. If the deal is still genuinely progressing when the window approaches its end, tell us in the portal and we extend it — we do not use expiry as a way to avoid paying a fee on a live opportunity. Protection lapses only when a registration goes cold with no activity, which frees the account for other channels. If a lapsed account later closes and you were demonstrably the origin of the relationship, raise it with us; the executed agreement governs, but we would rather keep a productive partner than win an argument over a calendar date.
- Do I have to sell or deliver anything?
- No. This is a referral relationship, not a reseller or subcontracting arrangement. You make a warm introduction; NextGen runs the sales process, scopes the work, contracts directly with the client, delivers the engagement, and carries the delivery risk. You are welcome to stay involved and join calls if you have a standing relationship with the buyer, and many of our best partners do, but you have no obligation to sell, quote, staff, or support. You never take on delivery liability and you never need to hold technical depth in software engineering.
- Who is a good fit to become a NextGen partner?
- The partners who earn the most are people already sitting next to a technology buying decision: management consultants, fractional CTOs and CIOs, private equity and venture operating partners, agencies and design studios who get asked to build things outside their scope, accounting and advisory firms serving mid-market clients, and boutique recruiting firms whose clients need a team rather than a hire. The common thread is trust with an executive who has budget. You do not need a technical background, a sales team, or a formal reseller operation.
- How do I get access to the portal and materials?
- Create an account and you are in immediately — the education library, positioning materials, and program terms are available to any signed-up partner from the first minute, with no waiting on approval. Deal registration and the confidential sales assets, including pricing guidance and client-facing case study material, unlock once we have reviewed and approved your application. That review is a short human check of who you are and who you sell to, and it typically completes within a few business days.
- Can I refer a client I already work with?
- Yes, and those are usually the strongest referrals we receive. If you already advise a company on strategy, operations, finance, or brand and they have a software or engineering gap you cannot fill, that is exactly the situation this program exists for. NextGen contracts separately with the client for the engineering scope and does not compete with your own service line. We will not pitch our services against your existing work, and we will not approach other companies in your client base off the back of an introduction you made.
- What are the restrictions I should know about before signing up?
- Three things matter. You may not represent yourself as an employee, agent, or authorised representative of NextGen, or make commitments on pricing, timelines, or deliverables on our behalf. You may not use NextGen's name, marks, or materials in your own marketing without written approval, which we grant routinely for co-branded introductions. And confidential material in the portal — pricing guidance, client detail, unredacted case studies — stays inside your organisation. The full agreement at /partners/terms sets out the complete terms, including term, termination with a 30-day cure period for a material breach, and how amendments are made.
